EREIN WURM This is the one minute sculptures book, a book full of instructions located near to a small diagram/drawing in a gallery, the visitors then try out or perform the instructions. Then images may be documented by the artist. We were asked to create our own 'one minute sculpture' instruction in pairs for another pair, then receiving one ourselves. The one minute sculpture instruction of our own much like the one in Erein Wurm's book had a small illustration we had to draw. |
Curated by Hans Ulrich, Do it began in 1993 in Paris

Instruction given to me:
The instruction given to me was far vaguer then the one I created, however was far simpler to do, the word 'Lay' being the first instruction so I knew my subject should be laying down, however instead of following the diagram and having the subject on the ball, we had the ball on the subject. As well as having the photo taken from afar to add in a small amount of our own idea to the instruction. |
Instruction made by me:
The task of coming up with an instruction, in truth, was quite difficult, having to think of something that somebody could follow as an instruction, but also being broad enough for them to interpret in a creative way. In the end the partner I worked with and I came up with the idea of 'doing the opposite', this meaning or being taken as doing something not the wrong way, but in a different way. For example we saw an image of a man upside down in a plant pot in one of the photo-books provided, this giving us the inspiration for our small drawing section of the instruction as he is planting himself to grow rather then the plants. |
These are two of the best photos I took in the task, mainly because of the composition of the photos, being able to see that the photos are taken out of a window on a higher level then the subject in the photo, however if I was to do it again I think I'd make the ball a different colour as it mixes with the grass, I would rather it stand out far more.
Below is the final exhibition of all the groups work, and I feel as if the piece done by my partner and I fit closely with the first group, using body's and a ball as an object to create a sculpture, and the second to last in the way of moving a subject into a shape they wouldn't usually be to create a different feel for the photo, in this case laying on the ground/floor. |
VSCO Cam
At home, as I don't have photoshop on my laptop, I edit my images on an app on my phone called VSCO cam, always doing the same steps, upping contrast and saturation to help colours pop, I change the warmth of the colour to try change any cold lights .ie. street laps, to make them more enticing, and I add a bot of grain, as photography on film is some of my favourite styles and usually has some grain, however that is more expensive and time consuming so I try to create something as close as I can to that effect. |
