A Danish photographer who achieved his international breakthrough in 1948 when he published 122 Farvefotografier/122 Colour Photographs, a collection of experiments with shapes inspired by Albert Renger-Patzsch, Keld Helmer-Petersen took black and white photos, later creating a very high contrast on them to give an amazing effect. Unlike documentary photographers, Helmer-Petersen stripped his images of context, giving them an abstract, untethered feel. They could have been taken at any point since the invention of colour photography. You can see he has payed a large amount of attention to composition, thats one of the things I like the most about his series as when going through the book it shows a real defined series

Experimentation
After looking at Petersen's work, we took images from out The World is Beautiful experiment looking at the photos inspired by Albert Renger -Patzsch, then putting these images into photoshop to change the threshold. By doing this you can see the way the image has changed from the photo of the telephone pole on the left to right. It taking away most of the detail, and upping the contrast. |

This task was particularly interesting, when we were just editing the photos I didn't think the end product would as good as it came out to be. You can see that the 2nd and 4th photos have pages with large white blocks left in them, if I was to do this again I would have tried to make these sections have some section of the image in them.
